Hey Racers!
I hope you’re ready to Race Route 8! Metro drivers have been practicing extra hard at smashing their brakes and beeping their horns to prepare for the race. I know we’re not as well funded or as practiced but I know we can make up for it in determination to go as fast as we can doing the slowest things we know.
We’ll have people leading the Cha Cha Slide, hopscotching, a conga line, a three-legged race, a workout group (lunges, high knees, etc…), balancing a marshmallow on a spoon in your mouth, balancing a soda can on your head, and just dancing and vibing. You’re welcome to join in on those but we’re giving out transit-themed prizes for the best ideas you bring to beat the bus and the best posters/signs.
We’ll start the show promptly at 5PM in Denny Park near Denny and Dexter with some announcements and music then leave the park when the next bus comes to face us. Then we’ll race the bus up to Denny and Stewart to see who wins. Water (for people) and motor oil (for buses) will be provided at our Pit Stop on Denny and Terry along with campaign stickers with everyone’s favorite cartoon bus (designed by our amazing artist Francesca Oaksford).
FixTheL8 is also hosting a post-race happy hour at Pine Box in Capitol Hill at around 6PM to celebrate and all are welcome! Note that Pine Box is 21+.
